International Arthroscopic Surgery Course 2019


Prof. Mustafa Karahan /Turkey is an internationally-active orthopaedic surgeon working mainly on sports traumatology, knee surgery, shoulder surgery and arthroscopy.He is well-known for implementing a teaching method in arthroscopic surgery on bovine knee and is the current President of the Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Society, as well as the past-president of the Turkish Sports Traumatology Association. Prof. Karahan is an executive Board Member of ESSKA as well as the editor of the ESSKA Academy, ESSKA’s online teaching portal. He has published more than 70 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has made over 150 scientific presentations. He has authored multiple book chapters and was chief editor of the ESSKA-Springer book Effective Training of Arthroscopic Skills and co-editor of Knots in Orthopedic Surgery—Open and arthroscopic. He was Godfather of the ESSKA-APKASS Travelling Fellowship in 2016. He is on the executive Board of ESA, ESSKA’s shoulder and elbow section and member of the EKA and ESMA Sections. He is an Editorial Board Member of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), the Journal of Arthroscopy, KSSTA and Journal of ISAKOS.

PD Dr. Med. Michael T. Hirschmann /Switzerland is internationally renowned knee specialist for joint reconstructive and arthroplasty knee surgery. His research focus has been on diagnostics and treatment of knee injuries involving the cartilage, meniscus or ligaments, diagnostics and treatment of patients with OA and in particular on unhappy patients after knee arthroplatsy  surgery. Another major research focus lies on the evaluation and development of 3D imaging such as CT, MRI and SPECT/CT on orthopaedic purposes. He published >100 original articles and book chapters in these areas. Michael T. Hirschmann has been a member of ESSKA since 2007 and has been active in the ESSKA arthroscopy committee. He is also a member of AAOS, ACL Study Group, AGA, DGOOC, DKG, EKA, EORS, GOTS and ISAKOS. He is currently vice-chairman of EKA.

Dr. Med. Lukas Moser /Switzerland/ is a fellow researcher at PD Michael T. Hirschmann’s Lab în Kantonsspital Baselland Bruderholz, Department of Orthopaedics, his main focus being knee-related researches.


György Hangody, PhD. /Hungary/ is an orthopaedic specialist at Department of Traumatology of Semmelweis University, Budapest.

Sebastian Kopf, M.D. /Germany/

His research work focuses mainly on anatomy and biomechanics of the ACL and the meniscus and its surgical techniques as well as on knee kinematics and stem cell treatment, also sports traumatology with special focus on knee surgery.

Sebastian has been a member of ESSKA since 2007, member of ISAKOS, committee member of AGA, international member of ORS as well as AAOS. He has been appointed Web Editor of Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy (KSSTA) effective from January 2012.

Francesco Perdisa M.D. /Italy/ is currently research fellow at the 2nd Orthopedic and Traumatologic Clinic, Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli - University of Bologna.
